Post Types
Google Business Profiles offer several types of posts to use.
Here’s a brief rundown of each one.
What’s New: This is the most versatile. For ideas, see the What to Post section below.
Events: Use this to tell people about an event you’re hosting. This includes:
- Event name
- Dates/times
- Event details
- Event link
Offers: This is similar to the Event type. Use this to communicate sales or offers for specific products.
COVID-19 Update: Use this to post critical updates about your business. These are given extra visibility on your listing.
For example – if you have a temporary change in hours – use this to tell people.
Post Frequency and Best Days
Frequency: It is highly recommended that you post 3-4 times per week. You should only post once per day.
Update: Recent tests show that posting less frequently (minimum of 2 times per week) won’t diminish performance.
Best Days to Post: Aim to post first thing in the morning, on your busiest days.
For example, you may plan to post consistently at 8:00 am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
What to Post
Use the following list to generate ideas for your posts:
Action Posts: If you have a new product that just came in, or a sale going on, these posts focus on asking users to take a particular action (e.g. check out a product or contact the business).
Branding Posts: These posts give your customers a peek into your company culture, or work to spread your brand’s message. If you have a weight loss service, then this could be a motivational post to stay focused and not cheat.
Blog Previews: If you have an active blog or resource section, then you can use Posts to share a preview of new resources as they are posted. The post would then send people to the full article on your website.
Review Showcase: The reviews you’ve received are assets. And showcasing your best ones in a post is a great way to get more exposure.
Q + A Posts: Have any questions that people ask before they become a customer? This is a great way to inform prospects about those specifically (more on how to leverage FAQs in the E3 Formula section).
Where to Get Images
If you don’t feel confident in the photos you’re taking of your actual business, then you can use some websites to get high quality photos.
Important: Using your own photos is always the best option. If you have location services switched on your phone – then all of the geo-data is automatically added when you take them.
If you’re not confident in your photos, or don’t like the way your business is presented – then this is actually a signal that you need to focus on improving your actual customer experience.
In the meantime, you can use the following websites to get photos:
Make sure you modify the images using the photo optimization process.
Images used in posts won’t be added to the Photos section. You’ll need to upload them separately.
