Before You Start
If you already have photos uploaded to your listing, please do not delete them.
Deleting and re-uploading photos will cause all previous engagement (e.g. views) to be lost.
Instead, please optimize all new photos that you upload, from this point on.
Specifications
- Each image must be smaller than 5 MB in size.
- Each image should be at least 720 x 720 pixels.
File Names
Each image should follow this taxonomy:
Company_Name_City_Business_Category
Example:
You have a divorce law firm named ACME Law in Santa Monica – with the following primary and secondary categories:
- Divorce Lawyer
- Family Law Firm
Then two of your image names would be:
- ACME_Law_Santa_Monica_Divorce_Lawyer.jpg
- ACME_Law_Santa_Monica_Family_Law_Firm.jpg
Choosing Images
Add at least one for each of the following:
- Business logo
- Cover photo (this is what people will see in Search and Maps – it’s the most important)
- An external (street) view of the building
- An internal (office) view
- One photo of a team member or the owner
- One photo demonstrating the product or service
Conditions:
- You do not need to hire a professional photographer – but the photos need to be high quality.
- Ensure the photos are flattering for your business.

“Businesses with photos receive 42% more requests for driving directions to their location from users on Google, and 35% more clicks through to their websites than businesses that don’t have photos.”
Geo-Tagging (Automatic Process)
If you take photos of the officeon a smart phone, ensure you have your phone’s Location Services switched on.
If you do, the photos will be correctly geo-tagged, and no further action is needed for this.
Geo-Tagging (Manual Process)
If you’re using photos that have been taken somewhere else – or aren’t sure if they have been geo-tagged – use this process.
#1 Choose Your Photos
Select the photos you’d like to geo-tag.
#2 Open Google Maps and Search for Your Location

#3 Right-Click the Location’s Pin
Then click the longitude/latitude coordinates to copy them:
#4 Open GeoImgr

#5 Upload an Image
Upload one of the images you previously selected.
#6 Paste the Geo Coordinates
Paste the geo-coordinates that you copied from Google Maps:
GeoImgr allows you to pull geo data directly within it – but you’ll need to upgrade to a paid account.
That’s why I’ve shown how to get coordinates from Google Maps.
#7 Write the EXIF Tags
Before continuing with this step – you might be asked to sign in with your Google account to continue.
Use this button:
#8 Download the Image
Use the Download button:
#9 Upload to Google Business Profile
If you’ve followed the other Photo Optimization processes – you’re ready to upload the photo to your Profile.
Uploading Photos to Google Business Profile
#1 Click the Add Photo Button
#2 Select the Correct Category
If you’re uploading a logo or cover photo – select that specific category.
All other photos can be added with the other option:
Removing Photos from Google Business Profile
- Select the photo you want to delete.
- In the top right hand corner – there will be a trash icon. Clicking that will allow you to remove it.
